Gov. Paterson Comes Out Swinging
Over the last few days, I have repeatedly blogged about the possible appointment of former MTA Chief Marc Shaw to replace recently resigned MTA CEO/Executive Director Elliot Sander. As I have noted, I am against his appointment as he is clearly the wrong man for the job. I also noted how I was not the only one who felt that way as State Senate Democrats are dead set against his appointment. The last news was Gov. Paterson officially announcing the worst kept secret involving his official consideration of Mr. Shaw for the post.
Now it is pretty obvious that Mr. Shaw is the clear first choice by the Governor as he is warning State Senate Democrats to stop trashing his preferred pick. Glenn Blain of the New York Daily News has more in this report which will appear in today’s print edition:
A fed-up Gov. Paterson warned Senate Democrats on Wednesday to stop trashing potential MTA head Marc Shaw – or he’ll start dishing on them.
“I’m really getting tired of this castigation of personalities out in the public,” Paterson said. “If it keeps up, maybe I’ll illuminate my feelings about some of the people who are commenting.”
Paterson, a former senator, said the attacks on Shaw by some of his former colleagues damage “the character and service of a man who’s been exemplary.”
He urged Senate Majority Leader Malcolm Smith to rein in his members.
“I very much resent that people who I don’t even remember being in the meetings have so much comment on the governor’s staff and the governor’s prospective appointees and even the entire process,” Paterson said.

Gov. Paterson warning anyone is outright comical. His tenure has been filled with one gaffe after another which showcases why he is a highly probable 1-term Governor. His obsession with appointing someone as inadequate as Marc Shaw shows a couple of things instantly. First off it shows how out of touch he is with the needs of the MTA. The other immediate thing shown is that these positions are mostly awarded on a favoritism basis.
If Gov. Paterson really understood or cared about the MTA’s needs, he would never have never chased off Elliot Sander to begin with. Lastly, he would not consider replacing him with one of the biggest culprits of the near collapse of the MTA. Gov. Paterson, stop with the bullshit warnings & focus on getting a clue will you!
