Metro-North Service Restoration Details

The MTA Metro-North Railroad just released service restoration details literally a couple of seconds ago. Here are the details:

Metro-North Railroad service, which was suspended last night in advance of a major winter nor’easter, will resume today on a Sunday schedule. Trains will resume at approximately 11 a.m. on the Harlem and Hudson Lines and at approximately 1 p.m. on the New Haven Line. Customers who use the Port Jervis Line or Pascack Valley Line should listen to announcements from NJ Transit about resumption of service on those lines.

Customers should listen for station announcements, continue to check the MTA’s website at mta.info or the Metro-North Train Time app for service updates. Customers should anticipate some delays, crowded conditions and allow for additional travel time. Customers should take care when traveling during inclement weather, and use caution when entering and exiting trains, and on platforms and staircases.

Roads remain treacherous and customers are advised to avoid unnecessary travel.

Harlem Line

Southbound to New York City:

The first express train from Southeast will depart at 11:14 a.m. It is due into Grand Central at 12:43 p.m.

The first local train from North White Plains will depart at 11:33 a.m. It is due into Grand Central at 12:22 p.m.

The first train from Wassaic will depart at 12:27 p.m. It is due into Southeast at 1:07 p.m., where customers can connect to continuing southbound service at 1:14 p.m.

Northbound to Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess Counties:

The first express train to Southeast will depart Grand Central at 10:47 a.m. It is due to Southeast at 12:20 p.m.

The first local train to North White Plains will depart Grand Central at 11:25 a.m. It will make all local stops and is due into North White Plains at 12:24 p.m.

The first train to Wassaic will depart from Southeast at 1:24 p.m. It is due in Wassaic at 2:08 p.m.

Hudson Line

Southbound to New York City:

The first express train from Poughkeepsie will depart at 10:54 a.m. It is due into Grand Central at 12:41 p.m.

The first train from Croton-Harmon will operate as a semi-express and will depart at 11:31 a.m. It is due into Grand Central at 12:34 p.m.

Northbound to Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess Counties:

The first express train to Poughkeepsie will depart Grand Central at 10:43 a.m. It is due into Poughkeepsie at 12:33 p.m.

The first local train to Croton-Harmon will depart Grand Central at 11:20 a.m. It will make all local stops and is due to arrive at Croton-Harmon at 12:28 p.m.

In accordance with normal Sunday service, there is no service on the Hudson Rail Link bus, Haverstraw-Ossining Ferry or Newburgh-Beacon Ferry.

New Haven Line

Westbound to New York:

The first express train from New Haven will depart at 12:25 p.m. and is due to arrive at Grand Central at 2:15 p.m. The first local train from Stamford will depart at 1:02 p.m., arriving at Grand Central at 2:09 p.m.

The first train from Waterbury will depart at 1:10 p.m. It is due in Bridgeport at 2:05 p.m., where customers can connect to a westbound New Haven Line train due at 2:12 p.m.

The first train from New Canaan will depart at 1:28 p.m. It is due in Stamford at 1:45 p.m., where customers can connect to a westbound New Haven Line train due at 1:55 p.m.

The first train from Danbury will depart at 1:37 p.m. It is due in South Norwalk at 2:30 p.m., where customers can connect to a westbound New Haven Line train due at 2:39 p.m.

Eastbound to Connecticut:

The first express train to New Haven will depart Grand Central at 12:04 p.m. It will connect with the New Canaan Branch at 12:51 p.m., with the New Canaan Branch train departing from Stamford at 12:58 p.m. and arriving at New Canaan at 1:15 p.m.

The first New Haven Line local train to Stamford will depart at 12:07 p.m. It is due in Stamford at 1:17 p.m.

The first train to Waterbury will depart Bridgeport at 2:41 p.m. Customers from New York who wish to board this train should catch the 1:04 p.m. departure from Grand Central.

The first train to Danbury will depart South Norwalk at 3:13 p.m. Customers from New York who wish to board this train should catch the 2:04 p.m. departure from Grand Central.

Tuesday Morning Service Update

Here is the up to the minute service update straight from a press release from the Governor’s office via the MTA:

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo this morning announced that the travel ban in the Hudson Valley (Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Ulster, Westchester counties), Nassau County, and New York City is lifted effective at 7:30 a.m. I-84 as well as the Thruway have been reopened. Drivers should use extreme caution and prepare properly as driving conditions remain poor and other states still may have travel bans in effect.

The travel ban for Suffolk County remains in effect.

System wide service for the MTA and PATH is expected to resume this morning and further updates will be provided at 8 a.m. Longer suspension can be expected on parts of the LIRR reaching Eastern Long Island.

More information about the reopening of transit will become available by 8 a.m. New Yorkers should continue to exercise extreme caution.

Snow accumulation overnight on Long Island was heavy, and the New York City and Hudson Valley regions experienced moderate precipitation. According to the National Weather Service, the region should expect snowfall, wind and low temperatures, with especially heavy snowfall on Eastern Long Island, as today progresses. A blizzard warning remains in effect through midnight for Suffolk County.

The MTA Long Island Rail Road has just released the final train departure times for this evening. Here are the details hot off the presses:

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced the departure times for the final trains expected to operate on the Long Island Rail Road tonight. Customers are urged not to wait until the last train, but to consider leaving earlier. If a branch is not listed, it means the final train departed before 7 p.m.

Last Metro North Train Departures

The MTA Metro-North has announced the departure time for the last trains running before the system is shutdown. Here are the details:

New Haven Line

Connecticut will shut down all roads at 9 p.m., which means people who take the last train out may be in violation of that curfew, unless they walk, and are advised to act accordingly.

Outbound

The last train to New Haven will depart Grand Central at 9:39 p.m. This train usually terminates at Stamford, but will be extended to New Haven, making all local stops. It is also the last train that will provide a connection to Danbury.

The last train that will provide a connection to New Canaan will depart GCT at 9:06 p.m. and connect at Stamford at 9:53 p.m.

The last outbound train that will provide a connection to Waterbury will depart GCT at 6:53 p.m.

Inbound

The last inbound train from New Haven will depart at 8:47 p.m.

The last inbound train from Stamford will depart at 10:04 p.m.

The last southbound from Waterbury will depart at 9:58 p.m. but will go only as far as Stamford, no connection to GCT.

The last southbound from Danbury will depart at 9:27 p.m. and terminates at Stamford with no connection.

The last southbound departure from New Canaan will depart at 10:28 p.m. and will terminate at Stamford with no connection.

Harlem Line

The last northbound train to North White Plains will depart GCT at 9:25 p.m.

The last northbound train to Southeast will depart GCT at 9:53 p.m.

The last northbound train to Wassaic will depart GCT at 8:52 p.m.

The last southbound train from Southeast will be at 10:15 p.m. and will also make all local stops through Fordham.

The last southbound train from Wassaic with a connection to GCT will depart at 9:30 p.m. An 11:28 p.m. departure from Wassaic will go to Southeast only with no connection.

Hudson Line

The last northbound train to Poughkeepsie will depart GCT at 9:20 p.m. and make all local stops from Yankees-East 153rd to Poughkeepsie.

The last southbound train will depart Poughkeepsie at 8:54 p.m.

The last southbound from Croton-Harmon departs at 10 p.m. and makes all local stops.

The last train that will connect with the Ossining-Haverstraw ferry departs Grand Central at 7:28 p.m.

The Newburgh-Beacon Ferry will be substitute bus service due to icy river conditions.

The last train that will connect with the Hudson Rail Link at Spuyten Duyvil and Riverdale departs GCT at 9:20 p.m.

West of Hudson

NJ Transit will stop departures from terminals at 8 p.m. in time for a 10 p.m. shutdown.
No trains will operate until at least 3 a.m. Thursday

The last inbound/eastbound Pascack Valley Line departs Spring Valley at 9:11 p.m. and arrives Hoboken at 10:29 p.m. westward
The last outbound/westbound Pascack Valley train departs Hoboken at 8:20 p.m. and arrives in Spring Valley at 9:37 p.m.

The last train to Port Jervis departs Hoboken at 7:57 p.m., makes some Bergen County stops and arrives in Port Jervis at 10:07 p.m.

26 Extra Trains For LIRR & Metro-North

In anticipation of the blizzard that will be hitting the tri-state area, the MTA is planning on running extra railroad service this afternoon to get commuters home. The agency will be operating 26 extra trains (8 on the LIRR & 18 on the Metro-North). Here are the details:

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced schedule details for 26 extra trains that are being added to LIRR and Metro-North schedules this afternoon. The trains are departing from Penn Station and Grand Central Terminal, and are intended to help those commuters who want to leave work early ahead of the forecast major winter storm. In addition, 14 Metro-North trains that would normally depart Grand Central after 5 p.m. will be canceled or combined with other trains as noted below. Both railroads expect to suspend service as of 11 p.m. today, subject to further evaluation of the severity of the storm.

Long Island Rail Road

The LIRR is operating eight extra trains departing Penn Station between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Babylon Branch:

• 2:32 p.m. express to Lynbrook, then all stops to Babylon

• 3:00 p.m. stopping at Jamaica, Rockville Centre, then all stops to Babylon

• 3:31 p.m. express to Rockville Centre, then all stops to Babylon

Port Jefferson Branch:

• 2:08 p.m. stopping at Jamaica, Mineola, then all stops to Huntington

• 2:29 p.m. stopping at Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, Jamaica, New Hyde Park, then all stops to Huntington

• 3:24 p.m. stopping at Jamaica, Mineola, Westbury and Hicksville

Port Washington Branch to Great Neck:

• 3:40 p.m. stopping at Woodside, Flushing-Main St., then all stops to Great Neck

Far Rockaway Branch:

• 3:48 p.m. express to Locust Manor, then all stops to Far Rockaway

Metro-North Railroad

Metro-North is operating 18 additional trains departing Grand Central between 1 and 4 p.m. To allow these trains to depart, the railroad will cancel or combine 14 trains that normally would depart Grand Central after 5 p.m., as described below.

Hudson Line:

Departures of Hudson Rail Link buses, the Newburgh-Beacon Ferry and the Haverstraw-Ossining Ferry will be coordinated so they are timed to connecting trains under the below schedule.

Early Getaway Trains:

• 1:38 p.m., stopping at Harlem-125th Street, Peekskill, then Beacon through Poughkeepsie.

• 2:38 p.m., stopping at Harlem-125th Street, Peekskill, then Beacon through Poughkeepsie.

• 3:11 p.m., stopping at Harlem-125th Street, then Tarrytown through Croton-Harmon.

• 3:45 p.m., stopping at Harlem-125th Street, Peekskill, then Beacon through Poughkeepsie.
