LIRR MLK Jr Day 2015 Service Plan

Here is the LIRR’s service plan for the upcoming Martin Luther King Jr holiday:

MTA Long Island Rail Road will operate on a modified Holiday Schedule with extra trains running on five branches on Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, Monday, January 19.

The LIRR will provide a total of 32 extra eastbound and westbound trains over and above the regular holiday schedule to accommodate travelers on the busy Babylon, Montauk, Port Jefferson, Port Washington and Ronkonkoma Branches.

Off peak fares apply all day.

The extra trains are included in the current LIRR Branch Timetables dated December 15, 2014. Look for the column marked “Note M.” The timetables can also be found on the MTA website at www.mta.info/lirr or by calling 511, the New York State Travel Information Hotline, and saying “Long Island Rail Road.”

Metro North MLK Jr Day 2015 Service Plan

Here is the Metro-North service plan for the upcoming Martin Luther King Jr holiday:

On Monday, January 19, 2015, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Metro-North Railroad will operate on a Saturday schedule with 32 additional trains.

It is a federal holiday and New York City’s financial markets are closed. But for those people who are working, Metro-North will operate more trains than a normal holiday schedule. Extra New York City-bound trains during the morning and outbound in the late afternoon will be provided.

Metro-North will be operating a Saturday schedule with three extra Hudson Line trains, 14 Harlem Line extras as well as two additional Wassaic connections, and 13 extra New Haven Line trains, including branch connections.

Hudson Line:

Southbound

• 5:30 a.m. from Poughkeepsie, making local stops to Ossining, then Tarrytown, 125th Street and GCT.

• 6:30 a.m. from Poughkeepsie, making local stops to Ossining, then Tarrytown, 125th Street and GCT.

Northbound

• 3:17 p.m. from GCT, stopping at 125th Street, then Croton-Harmon to Poughkeepsie.

Harlem Line:

Southbound

• 5:40 a.m. from Southeast, making local stops to White Plains, then express to 125th Street and GCT.

• 6:55 a.m. from North White Plains, making local stops to Crestwood, then express to 125th Street and GCT.

• 6:14 a.m. from Southeast, making local stops to White Plains, then express to 125th Street and GCT. This train will meet the 5:30 a.m. from Wassaic, which will arrive in Southeast at 6:10 a.m.

• 6:40 a.m. from Southeast, making local stops to White Plains, then express to 125th Street and GCT.

• 7:55 a.m. from North White Plains, making local stops to Crestwood, then express to 125th Street and GCT.

• 7:40 a.m. from Southeast, making local stops to White Plains, then express to 125th Street and GCT.

• 8:55 a.m. from North White Plains, making local stops to Crestwood, then express to 125th Street and GCT.

Northbound

• 7:17 a.m., stopping at 125th Street, Fordham, then White Plains to Southeast.

• 8:17 a.m., stopping at 125th Street, Fordham, then White Plains to Southeast.

• 3:37 p.m., stopping at 125th Street, then Pleasantville to Southeast.

• 4:16 p.m., stopping at 125th Street, then Crestwood to North White Plains.

• 4:52 p.m., stopping at 125th Street, then Crestwood to North White Plains.

• 5:16 p.m., stopping at 125th Street, then Crestwood to North White Plains.

• 6:22 p.m., stopping at 125th Street, then White Plains to Southeast. A connection will be available to Wassaic, departing Southeast at 7:58p.m.

New Haven Line:

Westbound

• 5:28 a.m. from New Canaan, which will make a connection to an existing Saturday train departing Stamford at 5:50 a.m.

• 5:20 a.m. from New Haven, with local stops to Stamford, then 125th Street and GCT.

• 6:07 a.m. from Danbury, which will stop at South Norwalk at 7:00 a.m., then local stops to Stamford, then Greenwich, Port Chester, Rye, then express to 125th Street and GCT.

• 6:25 a.m. from New Haven, with local stops to South Norwalk, then Stamford, 125th Street and GCT.

• 6:10 a.m. from Waterbury, then Bridgeport, then express to Stamford.

• 7:53 a.m. from Stamford, stopping at Greenwich through Larchmont, then 125th Street and GCT.

• 8:33 a.m. from South Norwalk, stopping at Darien through Stamford, then Greenwich through Rye, then 125th Street and GCT.

Eastbound

• 7:34 a.m. stopping at 125th Street, Fordham, then Greenwich, Stamford, Noroton Heights, Darien, South Norwalk, Westport, and Fairfield through New Haven.

• 8:34 a.m. stopping at 125th Street, Fordham, then Greenwich, Stamford, Noroton Heights, Darien, South Norwalk, Westport, and Fairfield through New Haven.

• 3:50 p.m. stopping at 125th Street, Stamford, Darien, South Norwalk and all stops to Danbury.

• 4:55 p.m. stopping at 125th Street, then Rye to Stamford.

• 5:31 p.m. stopping at 125th Street, then Rye to Stamford.

• The Saturday train leaving at 7:34 p.m. will make a connection to Danbury, leaving South Norwalk at 8:38 p.m.

Off peak fares apply all day.

Additionally, the uptown exits of Grand Central North will be closed all day.

LIRR New Year’s Holiday Service Plan

As a reminder, the Long Island Rail Road will be providing extra service for New Year’s Eve & New Year’s Day. Here are the full details:

MTA Long Island Rail Road will provide 12 additional eastbound trains on the afternoon of Wednesday, December 31 from Penn Station and 20 extra westbound trains to Penn Station and Atlantic Terminal, Brooklyn for this year New Year’s Eve celebration, including the Elton John New Year’s Eve Concert at Barclays Center, located right across from Atlantic Terminal.

Then to help those folks get home safely, the Railroad is adding 18 eastbound trains from Penn Station and Atlantic Terminal during the early morning hours of New Year’s Day. The eastbound trains from Atlantic Terminal will not depart until 20 minutes after the concert ends.

Alcohol Ban:

As in prior years, alcoholic beverage will not be allowed on LIRR trains, stations and platforms from 12 Noon on New Year’s Eve (Wednesday, December 31) through 12 noon on New Year’s Day (Thursday, January 1, 2014).

12 Extra Early Afternoon Eastbound Trains on New Year’s Eve

A total of 12 extra trains have been added to the schedules on the Babylon, Port Jefferson/Huntington, Port Washington and Far Rockaway branches,

Babylon Branch (6 Extra Trains):

• 1:28 p.m. from Penn Station, running express to Rockville Centre and making local stops to Babylon.

• 1:53 p.m. from Penn Station, stopping at Jamaica, Rockville Centre and making local stops to Babylon.

• 2:19 p.m. from Penn Station running express to Rockville Centre and making local stops to Babylon.

• 2:32 p.m. from Penn Station running express to Lynbrook and making local stops to Babylon.

• 3 p.m. from Penn Station, stopping at Jamaica, Rockville Centre and making local stops to Babylon.

• 3:31 p.m. train from Penn Station running express Rockville Centre and making local stops to Babylon.

With large numbers of customers taking advantage of these earlier departures, the LIRR will combine two closely-scheduled evening Babylon trains into one. The 5:59 p.m. from Penn Station will be cancelled and those customers accommodated by the next scheduled departure, the 6:05 p.m. train, which will run express to Merrick as usual, then make all local stops to Babylon.

Port Jefferson/Huntington Branch (3 Extra Trains):

• 2:08 p.m. from Penn Station, stopping at Jamaica, Mineola and all stops to Huntington.

• 2:29 p.m. from Penn Station, stopping at Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, Jamaica, New Hyde Park and all stops to Huntington.

• 3:24 p.m. from Penn Station, stopping at Jamaica, Mineola, Westbury and Hicksville.

Port Washington Branch (1 Extra Train):

• 3:40 p.m. from Penn Station, stopping at Woodside, Flushing Main St. and then all stops to Great Neck.

Ronkonkoma Branch (1 Extra Train):

• 1:46 p.m. to Woodside, Jamaica, Mineola, Hicksville, local to Ronkonkoma

Far Rockaway Branch (1 Extra Train):

• 3:48 p.m. from Penn Station stopping at Locust Manor, Laurelton, Rosedale, Valley Stream and all stops to Far Rockaway.

20 Extra Evening Westbound Trains on New Year’s Eve

Twenty extra trains to Penn Station and Atlantic Terminal, Brooklyn, have been added to schedules on the Babylon, Montauk, Port Jefferson/Huntington, Port Washington, Long Beach, Ronkonkoma and Hempstead branches.

• 5:47 p.m. from Babylon running local to Rockville Centre and then stopping at Jamaica and Atlantic Terminal, Brooklyn.

• 6:20 p.m. from Babylon running local to Rockville Centre and then stopping at Jamaica.

• 7:24 p.m. from Babylon running local to Rockville Centre, then stopping at Jamaica and Penn Station.

• 8:09 p.m. from Babylon running local to Rockville Centre and then stopping at Jamaica and Penn Station.

• 9:05 p.m. from Babylon running local to Rockville Centre and then stopping at Jamaica and Penn Station.

Montauk Branch (1 Extra Train):

• 8 p.m. from Speonk running local to Babylon, then express to Jamaica
