LIRR July 4th 2014 Service Plan

Here is the LIRR service plan for the July 4th holiday weekend:

The MTA Long Island Rail Road will provide additional early-afternoon service from Penn Station, Thursday, July 3, adding eight eastbound trains to the schedule for customers planning an early getaway for the start of the Independence Day holiday.

The extra early-afternoon trains will depart Penn Station starting at 2:08 p.m and includes three extra trains on the Babylon Branch, three on the Port Jefferson Branch, one extra train on the Port Washington Branch and one extra train on the Far Rockaway Branch.

(LIRR customers are reminded that the LIRR will be operating on a Saturday schedule on Friday, July 4.)

Added Afternoon Eastbound Trains for Thursday, July 3
The following service has been added to the eastbound afternoon schedule:

Babylon Branch:

2:32 PM from Penn Station express to Lynbrook, then all stops to Babylon

3:00 PM from Penn Station stopping at Jamaica, Rockville Centre, all stops to Babylon

3:31 PM from Penn Station express to Rockville Centre, then all stops to Babylon

Huntington/Port Jefferson Branch:

2:08 PM stopping at Jamaica, Mineola, then all stops to Huntington.

2:29 PM stopping at Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, Jamaica, New Hyde Park, all stops to Huntington.

3:24 PM stopping at Jamaica, Mineola, Westbury and Hicksville.

Port Washington Branch:

3:40 PM stopping at Woodside, Flushing Main St., then all stops to Great Neck.

Far Rockaway Branch:

3:48 PM stopping at Locust Manor, then all stops to Far Rockaway

Additional Service, Thursday, July 3 to Montauk and Greenport

Customers are reminded that the following eastbound trains, which normally run only on summer Fridays, will also operate on Thursday, including the Cannonball. The Cannonball, and other Friday-only trains, will not operate on Friday, July 4. On that day, the LIRR is running systemwide on a Saturday schedule.

Montauk Branch:

1:43 PM from Penn Station connecting at Jamaica with the train to Montauk

1:49 PM from Hunterspoint stopping at Jamaica, Westhampton and all stops to Montauk.

4:06 PM Cannonball from Penn Station express to Westhampton, then stopping at Southampton, Bridgehampton, East Hampton and Montauk.

5:09 PM from Penn Station will stop at Jamaica and make all stops to Montauk

7:11 PM from Penn Station connecting at Jamaica with the train to Montauk. The Montauk train from Jamaica will stop at Patchogue, Mastic-Shirley, then all stops to Montauk.

Ronkonkoma Branch – Extra Service to Greenport

The 3:55 PM train from Penn Station will connect at Ronkonkoma with the 5:21 PM eastbound train which has been extended to make all stops to Greenport.

Metro North July 4th 2014 Service Plan

Here is the July 4th holiday weekend service plan for the Metro-North:

Get a jump on the Independence Day holiday weekend with 17 extra getaway trains leaving Grand Central Terminal between noon and 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 3.

On Friday, July 4th, Metro-North trains will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule with extra trains in both directions to get folks to and from the Macy’s Fireworks.

Metro-North even provides extra trains to Rye on the New Haven Line, with shuttle buses to Rye Playland where Westchester County puts on its own spectacular fireworks extravaganza over the Long Island Sound. Come early and enjoy the amusement park. Stay late and see the fireworks, which go off at 9:30 p.m.

After the show, there is additional bus and rail service, with Rye trains making all local stops to Grand Central from 10:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. July 5. (Hint: Playland also has fireworks on July 3!) For more information, check out our Playland Getaway package at mta.info

There are five Hudson Line getaways, three Harlem Line getaways and nine New Haven Line getaways. Also, there are two extra inbound late PM New Haven Line trains.

After 4 p.m. Thursday, July 3, some trains are being combined and canceled.

All extra and canceled trains are shown in the public timetable.

On Friday, when the financial markets closed, Grand Central North entrances also are closed.

On Sunday, Metro-North will operate on a regular Sunday schedule with one extra inbound and one extra outbound evening New Haven Line train. Extra trains are shown in the timetables.

SI Railway July 4th 2014 Service Plans

As is the case every year, the Staten Island Raiilway will be offering its Getaway service for the upcoming July 4th holiday weekend. Here are the details:

Staten Island Railway customers looking to get a head start on the Fourth of July holiday will be able to catch earlier afternoon express train service on Thursday, July 3 with MTA Staten Island Railway’s Early Departure Getaway schedule. Extra SIR trains will be added earlier in the afternoon beginning at 2:30 p.m. from the St. George Ferry Terminal. There will be one express train and one local train awaiting every boat until 7:50 p.m. On the Fourth of July, SIR will operate on a Saturday schedule. Staten Island Railway is prepared to add additional service prior to and after the fireworks, as needed.

Latest Bus Improvements Begin Sunday

Starting this Sunday, previously announced bus improvements will begin for some NYC Transit routes. Here is some reminder info:

MTA New York City Transit and MTA Bus Company will improve bus service throughout New York City by adding and extending service on multiple bus routes beginning Sunday, June 29. These changes will restore routes and improve connections throughout the MTA’s surface transportation network, making travel easier for more than 2.5 million daily bus riders. These changes include restoring some services that were reduced or eliminated during 2010’s budget cuts, as well as new expansions to better serve customers and neighborhoods across the city.

B8, B37, B70:

As part of the 2013 Service Investments, both new and improved service will be implemented along three routes serving customers in Brooklyn.

B8 service will operate between the Brooklyn Veterans Administration Hospital and the Bay Ridge-95 St R station at all times.

B37 service will run along 3rd Avenue between Bay Ridge and Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center Station.

B70 service will be rerouted between 92nd Street / 7th Avenue and Bay Ridge Avenue / 8th Avenue.

Bx23:

In response to community requests for a one-seat ride throughout Co-op City, the Bx23 route is being adjusted to provide one-bus service to all five sections of Co-op City, at all times. This change discontinues the current weekday peak period shuttle trips. Bx23 customers will now have direct bus service between the Pelham Bay Park 6 Station and all five sections of Co-op City, seven days a week. This change is one of the recommendations of a study of bus service and performance in Co-op City prepared by MTA Bus and NYCT.

Bx28:

As part of our on-going efforts to make bus service more accessible to customers in Co-Op City, the Bx28 will be rerouted to use the Asch Loop around Bartow Mall. Overnight Bx28 service will not change.

Q19:

The Q19 will be extended west from its current western terminus on Astoria Boulevard at 21st Street to the East River waterfront on 27th Avenue at 2nd Street. This change offers service along the full length of Astoria Boulevard, improving transit access between eastern and western Queens, and provides additional transit options to the growing areas of western Astoria.

Q102:

To provide faster, more reliable service, the Q102 in Astoria will be adjusted to remain on 30th Avenue between Crescent Street and 8th Street. The bus stops on Crescent Street, Newtown Avenue and Astoria Blvd will be relocated to 30 Avenue. All bus stops along Astoria Blvd will be served by the Q19 instead, with connections to the NQ at the Astoria-Ditmars Blvd subway station.

Q50:

A bus stop will be added on Co-op City Boulevard at Dreiser Loop to improve customer access to this busy section of Co-op City. This change is one of the recommendations of a study of bus service and performance in Co-op City prepared by MTA Bus and NYCT.

Q103:

To meet the requirements of a rapidly growing area with lots of residential construction, Q103 service will now operate on Saturdays and Sundays, and operate later on weekday evenings. Service currently operates weekday daytimes and early evenings only. With this change we are able to respond to requests for increased transit service in the growing areas of western Queens along the waterfront including Hunters Point, the Noguchi Museum, and Socrates Sculpture Park. The Q103 connects to the Vernon Boulevard-Jackson Avenue 7 train station and the 21St-Queensbridge F train station.

M100:

As part of the 2013 Service Investments, the M100 will be rerouted in Inwood via Dyckman Street and 10th Avenue. This reroute will serve the Dyckman Street commercial corridor as well as residences and schools along 10th Avenue.

Metro-North Schedule Changes Begin July 7

Metro-North riders should note that schedule changes begin on July 7th. Here is a little info:

Metro-North will make adjustments to its New Haven and Harlem Line service on Monday, July 7, after closely monitoring performance, taking customer counts and listening to customer suggestions following the implementation of the May 11 schedule change.

These changes are intended to improve the customer experience by reducing crowding and enhancing connections.

Adjustments on the New Haven Line include:

In the AM Peak:

The 6:50 AM all-stops local from Stamford to Grand Central Terminal will depart Stamford six minutes later, at 6:56 AM. This change will restore a connection with the 5:48 AM train from New Haven, which arrives at Stamford at 6:52 AM. Customer will save up to 28 minutes of travel time as a result of this connection.

To accommodate this change and prevent train congestion in the segment of our territory between Woodlawn and Grand Central Terminal, the following adjustments will be made:

• The 6:55 AM semi-express from Stamford will operate five minutes earlier, departing at 6:50 AM.

• The 7:29 AM from New Rochelle will operate seven minutes earlier, departing at 7:22 AM.

• The 7:28 AM from Harrison will operate three minutes later, departing at 7:31 AM, but the arrival time of this train at Grand Central will not change.

Also, to relieve crowding, the 6:20 AM train from New Haven to Grand Central will add stops at Old Greenwich, Riverside and Cos Cob, but will no longer stop at Port Chester and Rye stations.

To accommodate customers at these stations, a new train will depart Greenwich at 7:33 AM, making stops at Port Chester and Rye before running express to Harlem-125th Street and Grand Central.

In the PM Peak:

The 6:35 PM train from Grand Central to New Haven will depart four minutes earlier, at 6:31 PM. This change is being made in response to a crowding issue on this train.

On the Danbury Branch: The Connecticut Department of Transportation, its signal contractor, and Metro-North will wrap up remediation work on the branch’s grade crossing systems by July 7. As a result, off-peak and weekend train service, which has been replaced by bus service since earlier this year, will resume.

To accomplish the June 9 Waterbury Branch change that extended the first Waterbury train (the 5:46 AM) from Bridgeport to Stamford, the first outbound train from South Norwalk to Danbury will depart South Norwalk 10 minutes later when full train service resumes on July 7, but will arrive in Danbury at the same time.

Adjustments on the Harlem Line include:

• The 6:46 AM from Goldens Bridge to Grand Central will depart from White Plains station two minutes earlier at 7:16 AM.

• The 7:11 AM local from North White Plains to Grand Central will operate six minutes later.

• The 7:34 AM express from North White Plains to Grand Central will operate one minute later and arrive in Grand Central two minutes later.

Minor changes (affecting four arrival times in Manhattan by less than five minutes after 10:30 PM) will be implemented as necessary to support late-night capital improvement projects.

In addition to these schedule adjustments, we have added cars to a number of trains to relieve crowding identified following the May 11 schedule change.

Metro-North will continue to listen to customer suggestions and closely monitor ridership and service, and will use the findings when developing the fall schedule change.
