LIRR July 4th Service Plan Info

Here is the official July 4th (Independence Day) service plan info for the Long Island Rail Road:

The MTA Long Island Rail Road will provide additional early-afternoon service from Penn Station on Tuesday, July 3 for customers planning an early getaway for the start of the Independence Day holiday.

The LIRR will be operating on a Sunday/holiday schedule on July 4th. Please note that additional afternoon Montauk Branch westbound trains from Montauk and the Hamptons will operate on Wednesday, July 4. The regular Monday-only return train from Montauk and the Hamptons will run on Thursday, July 5.

The extra early-afternoon trains will depart Penn Station starting at 2:10 PM on July 3. The extra service will include: three trains on the Port Jefferson Branch; three on the Babylon Branch; two
on the Port Washington Branch; one on the Far Rockaway Branch, and two trains to Jamaica for Montauk train connections. The eastbound afternoon train from Ronkonkoma to Yaphank gets extended to Greenport on Tuesday, July 3, as it normally does on Fridays during the summer. And, Friday-only train service will operate to the Hamptons and Montauk on Tuesday July 3; however, the Cannonball (the 4:06 PM from Hunterspoint Avenue to Montauk), which normally has Hamptons Reserve Service on Fridays, will not have Hampton Reserve cars on Tuesday, July 3.

Extra Train Service from Penn Station, Tuesday, July 3

Port Jefferson Branch to Hicksville and Huntington:

2:10 PM stopping at Jamaica, Mineola, then all stops to Huntington.

2:29 PM stopping at Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, Jamaica, New Hyde Park, then all stops to Huntington.

3:24 PM stopping at Jamaica, Mineola, Westbury and Hicksville.

Babylon Branch:

2:24 PM express to Lynbrook, then all stops to Babylon.

3:00 PM stopping at Jamaica, Rockville Centre, then all stops to Babylon.

3:31 PM express to Rockville Centre, then all stops to Babylon.

Port Washington Branch to Great Neck:

3:18 PM stopping at Woodside, Flushing-Main Street, then all stops to Port Washington

3:40 PM stopping at Woodside, Flushing-Main Street, then all stops to Great Neck.

Far Rockaway Branch:

3:48 PM express to Locust Manor then all stops to Far Rockaway.

Montauk Branch (Penn Station to Jamaica with Montauk Connections):

1:45 PM to Jamaica, with a Montauk train connection.

3:58 PM to Jamaica, with a Montauk train connection.

Ronkonkoma Branch to Greenport:

The 5:21 PM train from Ronkonkoma to Yaphank is extended on Friday making all stops to Greenport.

Metro-North July 4th Service Plan Info

As a reminder to MTA Metro-North Railroad riders, there will be 18 extra trains starting at noon for those getting away for the July 4th holiday early. Here are the complete details:

Independence Day falls on a Wednesday this year but that won’t stop people from making an early getaway on Tuesday and MTA Metro-North Railroad is here to help. The railroad will operate 18 extra getaway trains between noon and 4 p.m. for people leaving work early on Tuesday, July 3. In conjunction with this early rush hour, several regularly scheduled late PM peak trains will not operate. The extra trains are as follows:

Hudson Line:

1:46 p.m. express to Poughkeepsie

2:40 p.m. express to Poughkeepsie

3:25 p.m. express to Poughkeepsie

4:05 p.m. express to Poughkeepsie

Harlem Line:

1:45 p.m. express to Southeast

3:14 p.m. super-express to White Plains and North White Plains only

3:37 p.m. express to Southeast

4:08 p.m. express to Southeast

New Haven Line:

12:04 p.m. express to Westport, then all stops between Fairfield and New Haven.

1:04 p.m. express to Westport, then all stops between Fairfield and New Haven.

1:59 p.m. express to Stamford then all stops to South Norwalk.

2:04 p.m. express to Westport, then all stops between Fairfield and New Haven.

2:28 p.m. stopping at all stations between New Rochelle and Harrison.

2:31 p.m. express to Westport, then all stops between Fairfield and New Haven.

2:59 p.m. express to Stamford then all stops to South Norwalk.

3:02 p.m. stopping at all stations between New Rochelle and Harrison.

3:23 p.m. express to Stamford, then Westport and all stops between Fairfield and New Haven.

3:27 p.m. stopping at all stations between New Rochelle and Harrison.

4:02 p.m. express to Stamford then all stops between Bridgeport and New Haven.

In addition, the 3:04 p.m. Friday-only express to New Haven will also operate. All extra and cancelled trains are shown in the public timetable.

On Wednesday July 4, when financial markets and banks are closed, a Sunday schedule will operate. To accommodate people going to the fireworks there will be three extra inbound trains and 4 extra outbound trains after the fireworks.

There also will be extra train service for people returning to New York City from Rye Playland on July 4th. Between 9:00 p.m. and 1:14 a.m., there will be five additional inbound local trains from Rye to Grand Central Terminal. This service is not in the printed timetable but is shown in the online schedule at www.mta.info; special timetables have been posted at New Haven Line stations between Fordham and Rye.

Metro-North’s connecting services have made similar service adjustments for early getaways on Tuesday evening July 3rd:

The Hudson Rail Link will have a peak level of buses beginning with the 3:20 p.m. train
from Grand Central.

The Haverstraw-Ossining Ferry will have an extra early ferry meet the 2:54pm train from Grand Central. The 6:20 p.m. train to Ossining will not operate. Therefore there is no ferry
connection.

The Newburgh-Beacon Ferry will provide extra early ferries to meet the following trains from Grand Central: the 2:50 p.m., 3:30 p.m., and 4:05 p.m. trains, as noted in published timetables. The 5:31 p.m. express train to Beacon does not operate. The ferry will instead meet the combined 5:34 p.m. train to Poughkeepsie.

On Wednesday July 4th, no connecting services will operate.

Grand Central North exits are closed on Wednesday.

S.I. Railway July 4th Service Plan Info

Here is the July 4th (Independence Day) service plan info for the MTA Staten Island Railway:

Staten Island Railway customers looking to get a head start on the Fourth of July holiday will be able to catch earlier afternoon express train service on Tuesday, July 3 with MTA Staten Island Railway’s Early Departure Getaway schedule. Extra SIR trains will be added earlier in the afternoon beginning at 2:30 p.m. from the St. George Ferry Terminal. There will be one express train and one local train awaiting every boat until 7:50 p.m.

On the Fourth of July, SIR will operate on a Sunday schedule. The Staten Island Ferry will be suspended beginning at 8 p.m. The last boat from both terminals will be at 7:30 p.m. Both sides will resume service at 10 p.m. Staten Island Railway is prepared to add additional service after the fireworks, as needed.

Bus & Subway July 4th Service Plan Info

With Independence Day a little under 24 hours away, here is a NYC Transit & MTA Bus service info reminder:

New York City Subway:

On Wednesday, July 4, subways will operate on a Saturday schedule. There will be increased subway service on the 1, A, C, E, L and 42nd Street Shuttle S following the Macy’s fireworks celebration, which will originate from four barges located on the Hudson River between 18th and 43rd Streets from 9:20 p.m. to 9:50 p.m.

Buses in New York City:

Buses operated by MTA New York City Transit and the MTA Bus Company will operate on a Saturday schedule on Wednesday, July 4. There are many routes that either do not operate on Saturdays or do not run on part of the route at certain hours. Customers traveling on the Fourth of July should check Saturday schedules, lines and routes.
