Emergency Repair Work Affects E & M Service
Just a short time ago, MTA NYC Transit announced that due to emergency track work, service on the & would be affected. Here are the details courtesy of a press release sent out:
Due to necessary switch repairs north of the Lexington Avenue-53rd Street station on the E/M, northbound M trains will run via the 63rd Street tunnel (F line), from 47th-50th Street/Rockefeller Center to 36th Street, Queens. Customers on the E can also expect delays. In addition, due to crowded conditions at Lexington Avenue-53rd Street, access to the platform may be restricted. The platform will be “exit only” when necessary.
Instead of using the E or M to enter the system, Queens-bound customers are urged to use the R at Lexington Avenue-59th Street. For Penn Station, or the Port Authority Bus Terminal, instead of using the E, use the N, Q or R from Lexington Avenue-59th Street to Times Square or 34th Street-Herald Square.

Service Diversions 06-06-11
I have just updated the Service Diversions by removing all of the weekend work that wrapped up by a minute ago. The planned work for this week & beyond in some cases has been moved to the forefront.
I suggest printing out a copy before heading to your destination. If you have an internet capable handheld device, you can use it to access the mobile version of this site. The next update will be sometime on Thursday or Friday after I received the planned weekend diversions from the MTA directly.
As always, stay safe & have a wonderful week.

MTA Worker Loses 3 Teeth In Bias Attack
Since 9/11, those of or look to be of Muslim descent have had to deal with idiots around the country comparing them to Osama Bin Laden. While those of us who actually know what really happened that day & understand who was really behind it, would never foolishly compare innocent people to him.
Unfortunately our country is still filled with enough idiots who do & that was the case on Memorial Day when a MTA employee lost 3 teeth after being attacked by a lowlife who accused him of being related to Osama. John Lauinger of the New York Daily News has more:
Jiwan Singh blames the world’s most notorious terrorist for the bias attacks he and his family have suffered over their religion.
The Sikh MTA employee was riding a Brooklyn A train on Memorial Day when a hate-spewing straphanger accused him of being related to Osama Bin Laden and then sucker-punched him.
“He was saying, ‘You are the brother of Osama,'” said Singh, 59, who lost three teeth from the blows. “I said, ‘I am not Osama. I have nothing to do with him!'”
An Indian immigrant who came to America more than 30 years ago, Singh bristles at the name Bin Laden for repeatedly bringing harm to his people and religion.
The Queens father of five said his son, Jasmir, 23, lost an eye after being stabbed by attackers in 2009 who targeted him because of his turban and traditional beard.
“We are Indians,” he said, recalling other “Osama” slurs he’s endured because of his long, white beard.
“Due to that bastard, I have suffered so much, my family has suffered so much, my community has suffered so much.”
Singh, an electrical engineer, said the recent attack happened about 11:30 p.m. as he rode the train to work in Brooklyn from his home in Richmond Hill.
The attacker, whom Singh described as a black man in his late 20s, got on at the Utica Ave. stop.
The car was half-empty, Singh said, but the man walked right up to him and demanded he give up his seat. Singh said he was nervous, but pointed out that there were other open seats nearby.
He said the man grabbed him by the shirt collar, picked him up and threw him into one of those seats.
“He said, ‘Taliban, you sit there!'” Singh recalled.
The attacker, who wore a checkered shirt and a brown cap, then stared down Singh – sometimes cursing him out loud, other times muttering under his breath.
As the train pulled into the next station, Kingston Ave., the man suddenly threw two quick roundhouse punches, Singh said. Both hit him square in the mouth.
“He said, ‘This is for you, Osama!'” Singh recalled. “It was so fast. I couldn’t even defend myself.”
Singh cupped his bleeding mouth while chasing the attacker, who fled the station and got away.

First off, I would like to extend my condolences to Mr. Singh & his family for having to put up with years of uncalled for abuse. I sincerely hope that this worthless piece of trash is caught & punished to the full extent of the law. In the meantime, I hope that Mr. Singh & his family will never have to deal with anything like this again. While it is wishful thinking, one could only hope they get a deserved break.

Buses Replace Pascack Valley Line Trains
For those Metro-North Railroad customers who ride the Pascack Valley Line, please be aware that buses will replace some trains during midday hours during the week & all weekend from June 4th until June 26th. Here are the complete details:
Beginning Saturday, June 4 and continuing through Sunday, June 26, buses will replace Pascack Valley Line trains between Spring Valley and Secaucus Junction on weekdays from approximately 8:45 AM until 3:30 PM and each weekend beginning with the 12:45 AM Hoboken departure Friday night/early Saturday and continuing through the 12:45 AM Hoboken departure Sunday night/early Monday.
During this 22-day period, NJ TRANSIT personnel will upgrade several grade crossings and perform maintenance.
Buses will operate between Spring Valley and Secaucus Junction, where connecting rail service to/from New York and Hoboken will be available.
Buses will operate in local and express segments (except the 12:45 a.m. departure on weekends, which will be served by one bus making all stops).
On Saturdays and Sundays while busing is in effect, all Metro-North customers from Spring Valley, Nanuet and Pearl River may use their monthly/weekly commutation passes for travel on Metro-North’s Hudson Line between Tarrytown and Grand Central Terminal.
IMPORTANT: Certain Secaucus-bound buses may operate up to 10 minutes earlier than scheduled train departure times on Saturday and Sunday mornings. See bus schedule below for details.
Every effort will be made to maintain train connections at Secaucus, but they cannot be guaranteed.
Customers should allow an additional 30-60 minutes travel time.
Customers traveling locally between outlying stations on the Pascack Valley Line may need to travel to Secaucus and then transfer to an outbound bus to reach their destination. There will be no direct connection between the different bus segments.
To avoid delays, Pascack Valley Line customers may wish to travel via the Main/Bergen County Line.
We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding.
