Latest Service Advisory

A little while ago, the MTA sent out their latest service advisory which said the following:

Due to the extreme nature of the ongoing blizzard, including high winds and major snow drifts, the MTA is urging its customers to stay home this morning if at all possible.

There are major suspensions across our transportation network that may continue through the morning rush hour, including a full suspension of service on the Long Island Rail Road, suspension of Metro-North Railroad’s New Haven Line, and suspension of several of the lettered subway lines.

Please continue to monitor mta.info throughout the morning, but for your safety and the safety of our employees and equipment, please plan on staying home this morning unless it is urgent that you travel. Full details of current system impacts are available at www.mta.info.

Subway Service Update Part 2

I just received another e-mail from the press office with information on subway service. As expected, it is not looking good:

Due to continued harsh weather and icing conditions, service on some subway lines has been suspended and though employees are currently working to clear stalled trains, service along several of the lettered Lines in Brooklyn will probably not be restored for the morning rush.

7 Train train service is suspended between Times Square and Main Street, Flushing.

A Train train service is suspended to the Rockaways.

D Train service is suspended between 36th Street and Stillwell.

F Train train service is suspended between Stillwell and Jay Street-MetroTech.

L Train train service is suspended between Eighth Avenue, in Manhattan and Myrtle Avenue in Brooklyn.

N Train train service is suspended between Stillwell and 59th Street.

Q Train train service is suspended between Stillwell and DeKalb Avenue.

Additionally, a train with mechanical problems at the Eltingville Station, has caused a suspension in Staten Island Railway service along the entire line in both directions between the St. George Station and the Tottenville Station.

Service Diversions 12-27-10

I have just updated the “Service Diversions” page by removing the work that was originally scheduled or has wrapped up a minute ago. With the blizzard still causing service issues throughout the system, I suggest listening to all on board announcements as I suspect some diversions will be cancelled.

Print out a copy of the diversions before heading out the door today if you must or use your internet capable handheld device to access Transit Blogger’s mobile site. As always, stay safe & if you can stay home, I suggest you do so. The next update will be sometime on Wednesday or Thursday after the MTA sends me the diversions.

Latest LIRR Service Information

I just received an e-mail from the LIRR press office with information on service. Here is the latest:

Long Island Rail Road passenger service remains suspended systemwide in both directions. The suspension will continue for the overnight due to the blizzard.

NYC Transit is honoring LIRR tickets for subway service at Penn, Atlantic Terminal and Jamaica. The LIRR will continue throughout the overnight to operate equipment trains to clear snow from the tracks. We plan to run a holiday schedule Monday.

Thankfully I took care of my errands over the last couple of days. I am thinking I will be doing all my work from home until at least Tuesday night.
