1 Line Weekend Service Diversions Continue

Yesterday afternoon, MTA NYC Transit sent out the weekend service diversions which can be read here. Shortly thereafter, a press release was sent out highlighting the continuation of the major weekend diversions on the 1 Train due to the station construction work between 242nd Street and Dyckman Street & Port Authority work at the World Trade Center site. Here are the details:

MTA New York City Transit announces that for the next two weekends, October 29- November 1 and November 5-8, planned service changes will continue as part of the long-term station renewal project in Northern Manhattan and the Bronx. In addition, during these two weekends, train service will be limited between 96th and 14th Streets due to track work at 66th Street.

There will be no 1 service between 242nd Street and 168th Street due to the station construction work between 242nd Street and Dyckman Street. Free shuttle buses provide service between the 242nd Street (1) station and the 207th Street (A) station. Washington Heights customers may take the M 3 or free shuttle bus service stopping at 168th Street, 181st Street, and 191st Street along St. Nicholas Avenue.

Downtown 1 trains will run local between 168th Street and 34th Street, then express from 34th Street to 14th Street where it terminates. Uptown 1 trains run express from 14th Street to 72nd Street (skipping 50th, 59th, and 66th Streets), then local to 168th Street,.

Downtown 2 and 3 trains will make local stops from 96th Street to Chambers Street. Uptown 2 and 3 trains will run local from Chambers Street to 42nd Street, then express, stopping at 72nd and 96th Streets. There is no uptown 1, 2, or 3 service at 50th, 59th or 66th Street.

Due to work by Port Authority at the WTC site, free shuttle buses will operate between Chambers Street and South Ferry.

Bx 5 Reroute At Hunts Point Av 6 Station

Yesterday afternoon, MTA New York City Transit announced a reroute of the West-Farms bound Bx5 at the Hunts Point Av 6 Train station due to a change by the New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT). Here are the complete details courtesy of a press release I received.

Effective Saturday, October 30, 2010 New York City Department of Transportation will restrict turns at the intersection of Southern Boulevard, 163rd Street and Hunts Point Avenue in the Bronx. These restrictions will prevent all vehicles, including buses, from turning from northbound Hunts Point Avenue onto northbound Southern Boulevard.

As a result, the West Farms bound-Bx5 will travel its regular route to Bronx River Avenue and Bruckner Boulevard, then via Bruckner Boulevard, right on East 163rd Street, and right on Southern Boulevard.

A new bus stop will be on East 163rd Street at the far side of Hoe Avenue. The current bus stop on the westbound side of Bruckner Boulevard on the near side of Hunts Point Avenue will be discontinued.

The Pelham Bay Park-bound Bx5 route, all destination signs, service frequency and terminal stops will remain unchanged.

For more information as to why this reroute will be implemented, click here for a detailed .pdf report from the New York City Department Of Transportation (NYCDOT).

LIRR Expects Normal Rush Hour Service

Hours after being forced to cancel some PM rush hour trains due to a New Jersey Transit (NJT) train derailment at Penn Station, the MTA Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) announced that it expects normal rush hour service on Tuesday. Here is the quick press release I received:

MTA Long Island Rail Road customers should expect normal rush hour service Tuesday, October 26 as the NJ Transit train that derailed in Penn Station on Monday, October 25 has been re-railed and the track repaired.

The LIRR appreciates its customers’ understanding and patience for the canceled trains and delays endured during Monday evening’s rush hour as the LIRR was limited to using 6 of its 9 regular tracks as the derailed NJ Transit train blocked access to more than half the station tracks at the terminal.
