MTA Presidents’ Day 2017 Service Plan Info

Here is the official MTA service plan info for Presidents’ Day 2017:

New York City Subways and Buses

On Presidents’ Day, Monday, February 20, New York City subways and buses will operate on a Saturday schedule with some planned subway service changes:

• 1 trains are suspended in both directions between South Ferry and 14 St, and between 137 St and Van Cortlandt-Park 242 St.

• 2 trains run local in both directions between Chambers St and 34 St-Penn Station.

• 3 & 4 trains are suspended between Crown Hts-Utica Av and New Lots Av. Take free shuttle buses instead.

• Queens-bound 7 trains run express from Queensboro Plaza to 74 St-Broadway.

• Manhattan-bound A & C trains run express from Euclid Av to Broadway Junction.

• D trains will not run between 59 St-Columbus Circle and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr. Also, F trains replace D service in Brooklyn between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.

• F trains will not run between Lexington Av/63 St and Jay St-MetroTech. D trains will replace F service in Brooklyn between Jay St-MetroTech and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.

• J trains are suspended in both directions between Broadway Junction and Jamaica Center. Take free shuttle buses and

• N service is rerouted via the R in both directions between Canal St and DeKalb Av.

Long Island Rail Road:

On Presidents’ Day, Monday, February 20, the Long Island Rail Road will operate on a Holiday schedule with an extra westbound train departing Ronkonkoma at 7:10 a.m. and arriving at Penn Station at 8:31 a.m.

Off peak fares will be in effect all day.

Metro-North Railroad:

On Presidents’ Day, Monday, February 20, MTA Metro-North Railroad will operate on a Saturday schedule.

The Hudson Rail Link, Newburgh-Beacon Ferry and Haverstraw-Ossining Ferry will not operate.

The north end exits to Grand Central at 46th-47th-48th Streets will be closed.

Off-peak fares are in effect all day.

Staten Island Railway:

On Friday, February 17, the Staten Island Railway will operate on an early evening rush hour schedule beginning at 2:30 p.m. to help folks get a jump start on the long weekend. On Presidents’ Day, Monday, February 20, the Staten Island Railway will operate on a Sunday schedule.

Metro North Harlem Line Changes

Just a few minutes ago, the MTA Metro North Railroad announced that riders on the northern portion of the Harlem line should anticipate cancellations & delays due to a disabled train north of Hawthorne that struck a tree on the tracks. Here are the official changes as of press time:

MTA Metro-North Railroad is advising northern Harlem Line customers to prepare for the possibility of delays and cancelations during this evening’s rush hour as crews attend to a disabled train north of Hawthorne. At 11:58 a.m., a southbound six-car train struck a tree that had fallen across the tracks during high winds this morning. As a result, the first set of wheels of the first car came off the track. There were no injuries.

Crews are working to re-rail that set of wheels and inspect and repair a stretch of about 100 feet of track that were damaged in the incident.

Metro-North expects to operate near normal service as far as North White Plains. North of North White Plains, the railroad anticipates train delays and cancelations. Southbound trains will bypass Hawthorne and Valhalla.

The service changes are taking place because the railroad will operate on reduced capacity because one of its two tracks between North White Plains and Mt. Kisco will remain out of service.

Harlem Line tickets are being cross honored on the Hudson & New Haven Lines.

Metro-North anticipates operating a regular Harlem Line schedule for tomorrow, Tuesday, February 14.

Northbound Service Changes:

The 4:18 p.m. train to Southeast is cancelled and combined with the 4:21 p.m. train to Southeast, making all stops of both trains to Southeast.

The 4:35 p.m. train to Wassaic is cancelled and combined with the 4:41 p.m. train to Southeast, making all stops from Valhalla to Wassaic. Customers for White Plains and North White Plains must take the 4:44 p.m. train to North White Plains to avoid overcrowding.

The 6:13 p.m. train to Mount Kisco is cancelled and combined with the 6:29 p.m. train to Southeast, making all stops of both trains to Southeast. Customers for White Plains and North White Plains should take the 6:16 p.m. train to North White Plains to avoid overcrowding.

Southbound Service Changes:

Southbound, there will be no service from/to Hawthorne and Valhalla. Customers looking for southbound service from Hawthorne and Valhalla will need to go to Pleasantville or North White Plains for southbound train service. Customers traveling southbound from Southeast who need to travel to Hawthorne and Valhalla should travel to North White Plains to change to a northbound train to those stations.

The 6:42 p.m. train from Southeast is cancelled.

Cuomo Budget Has $65M Cut To MTA Funds

In a Daily News Exclusive, the exclusive budget revealed by Gov. Cuomo last month includes a well hidden cut of $65M in funding to the MTA. Dan Rivoli has more:

The suffering subway, bus and rail system may have less money to move New Yorkers.

A line tucked deep in Gov. Cuomo’s executive budget from last month calls for a $65 million cut to a chunk of money the state gives to the MTA — down to $244 million from $309 million last year.

The 21% cut, if it survives the budget process, would hit the MTA at a time when commuters are fuming over frequent delays, spotty service, overcrowding and constant fare hikes.

“If Gov. Cuomo wants to take credit for opening the Second Ave. subway, he also has to take responsibility of the day-to-day operations in the rest of the subway system,” said John Raskin, director of the Riders Alliance.

Why am I not surprised that our elected officials once again are looking at ways to shortchange the MTA & the millions of riders who depend on it. I agree 100% with Riders Alliance director John Raskin in regards to Cuomo needing to take responsibility for the entire transit system. I wonder how his arm is feeling from all the patting on the back he gave himself over part of the Second Avenue Subway being opened.

The MTA needs to go on a legitimate PR campaign to clearly explain why a lot of their issues stem from funding issues caused by political mishandling compared to it being pure negligence which is what most riders assume the reason to be.

We shall see if Cuomo gets his way with this funding cut. Hopefully for the sake of millions, he does not as it is just not right!

LIRR AM Rush Service Plan 02-10-17

Here is the MTA Long Island Rail Road (LIRR)’s AM rush service plan information for Friday morning, the day after the season’s biggest storm.

MTA Long Island Rail Road will continue to operated reduced service for the AM peak rush-hour on Friday, running 135 morning rush hour trains during – nine less than normal – as it continues to recover from the storm and so inspections, delayed by snowfall, can continue following Wednesday’s non-passenger train derailment of one train car.

Departing trains will leave generally within 10 minutes of each other and will be making additional stops.

While snowfall has stopped, blowing wind and icy conditionals will impact the schedule. LIRR urges customers to check the LIRR’s digital information streams listed below before traveling.

“There remains the potential for weather-related difficulties and challenges to affect our operations tomorrow, but we expect to continue to provide service that meets customer demands and to get people to work safely again tomorrow,” said Patrick Nowakowski, President of the LIRR.

Port Jefferson Branch:

The 6:25 a.m. train from Hicksville due into Penn Station at 7:11 a.m. is canceled. The 6:15 a.m. train from Huntington due into Penn Station at 7:17 a.m., will stop at Hicksville at 6:33 a.m. and add stops at Carle Place, Merillon Ave., and New Hyde Park. The 5:44 a.m. train from Port Jefferson due Penn Station 7:20 a.m. will also add a stop at Hicksville at 6:42 a.m.

Ronkonkoma Branch:

The 6:54 a.m. train from Central Islip due into Penn Station at 8:06 a.m. is canceled. The 6:56 a.m. train from Ronkonkoma will stop at Central Islip at 7:03 a.m. and is due into Atlantic Terminal at 8:17 a.m. Customers can change at Jamaica for service to Penn Station.

Babylon Branch:

The 6:57 a.m. train from Freeport due into Penn Station at 7:40 a.m. is canceled. The 6:32 a.m. train from Babylon due Penn Station 7:14 a.m. will add stops at Freeport, Baldwin and Rockville Centre.

The 7:29 a.m. train from Freeport due into Penn Station at 8:13 a.m. is canceled. The 7:11 a.m. train from Massapequa Park due into Penn Station at 8:08 a.m. will add stops at Freeport, Baldwin and Rockville Centre.

The 8:10 a.m. train from Freeport due into Penn Station at 8:50 a.m. is canceled. The 7:45 a.m. train from Babylon due into Penn Station at 8:56 a.m. will add stops at Freeport, Baldwin and Rockville Centre.

The 8:25 a.m. train from Freeport due into Penn Station at 9:08 a.m. is canceled. The 8:03 a.m. train from Babylon due into Penn Station at 9:11 a.m. will add stops at Baldwin and Rockville Centre.

Hempstead Branch:

The 7:36 a.m. train from Hempstead due Atlantic Terminal at 8:28 a.m. is canceled. The 8:03 a.m. train from Hempstead due into Penn Station at 8:51 a.m. will add stops at Queens Village, Hollis and Jamaica. Customers can change at Jamaica for service to Penn Station.

Long Beach Branch:

The 8:03 a.m. train from Long Beach due Penn Station at 8:54 a.m. is canceled. The 8:08 a.m. train from Long Beach is due into Penn Station at 9:02 a.m., will operate.

Far Rockaway Branch:

The 8:10 a.m. train from Far Rockaway due into Penn Station at 9:05 a.m. is canceled. The 8:21 a.m. train from Far Rockaway due into Penn Station 9:17 a.m., will operate.
