LIRR New Year’s Eve 2015 Service Plan

Here is the New Year’s Eve & Day service plan for the Long Island Rail Road:

The Long Island Rail Road is adding 13 trains to its eastbound afternoon schedule from Penn Station on New Year’s Eve, Thursday, December 31, to accommodate an expected large number of customers leaving work early to begin their holiday weekend. The additional service from Penn Station will be provided between 12:43 p.m. and 3:48 p.m. on the Ronkonkoma, Babylon, Port Jefferson, Port Washington and Far Rockaway Branches.

Later that evening, the railroad is adding 20 extra westbound trains to Penn Station and Atlantic Terminal, Brooklyn, for this year’s New Year’s Eve celebrations including concerts by Phish at Madison Square Garden and Jimmy Buffet at Barclay’s Center. Then to help folks get home safely, the railroad is adding 20 eastbound trains from Penn Station and Atlantic Terminal during the early morning hours of New Year’s Day.

Alcohol Ban:

As in prior years, alcoholic beverage will not be allowed on LIRR trains, stations and platforms from 12 Noon on New Year’s Eve (Thursday, December 31) through 12 noon on New Year’s Day (Friday, January 1).

Ronkonkoma Branch – Two Trains:

12:43 p.m. stopping at Woodside, Jamaica, Mineola, Hicksville, then local to Ronkonkoma (except Pinelawn)

1:52 p.m., Woodside, Jamaica, Mineola, Hicksville, then local to Ronkonkoma (except Pinelawn)

Babylon Branch – Six Trains:

1:28 p.m. express to Rockville Centre, then local to Babylon

1:55 p.m. express to Jamaica, stopping at Rockville Centre, then local to Babylon

2:22 p.m. express to Rockville Centre, then local to Babylon

2:32 p.m. express to Lynbrook, then local to Babylon

3:00 p.m. stopping at Jamaica, Rockville Centre, then local to Babylon

3:31 p.m. express to Rockville Centre, then local to Babylon

Port Jefferson Branch – Three Trains:

2:08 p.m. stopping at Jamaica, Mineola, then local to Huntington

2:29 p.m. stopping at Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, Jamaica, New Hyde Park, then local to Huntington

3:25 p.m. stopping at Jamaica, Mineola, Westbury and Hicksville

Port Washington Branch – One Train:

3:40 p.m. stopping at Woodside, Flushing Main Street, then all stops to Great Neck

Far Rockaway Branch – One Train:

3:48 p.m. stopping at Locust Manor, Laurelton, Rosedale, Valley Stream, then all stops to Far Rockaway.

20 Extra Evening Westbound Trains on New Year’s Eve:

The LIRR has added 20 extra trains to Penn Station and Atlantic Terminal, Brooklyn, on the Babylon, Montauk, Port Jefferson/Huntington, Port Washington, Long Beach, Ronkonkoma and Hempstead Branches to help New Year’s Eve revelers travel safely.

Port Jefferson Branch – Seven Trains:

4:55 p.m. from Huntington stopping at Cold Spring Harbor, Syosset, Hicksville, then Jamaica and Penn Station

6:39 p.m. from Huntington stopping at Cold Spring Harbor, Syosset, Hicksville, then Jamaica and Atlantic Terminal, Brooklyn

6:59 p.m. from Hicksville running local to Jamaica, then Penn Station

7:10 p.m. from Port Jefferson, running local to Huntington, then Hicksville, Jamaica andnPenn Station

7:33 p.m. from Hicksville running local to Jamaica, then Penn Station

7:38 p.m. from Huntington making all stops to Jamaica, then Penn Station

8:25 p.m. from Huntington making all stops to Jamaica, then Penn Station

Long Beach Branch – Two Trains:

5:42 p.m. from Long Beach making all stops to Jamaica, then Penn Station

8:14 p.m. from Long Beach making all stops to Jamaica, then Penn Station

Babylon Branch – Five Trains:

5:47 p.m. from Babylon running local to Rockville Centre, then Jamaica and Atlantic Terminal, Brooklyn

6:20 p.m. from Babylon running local to Rockville Centre, then Jamaica and Penn Station

7:24 p.m. from Freeport running local to Rockville Centre, then Jamaica and Penn Station

8:09 p.m. from Babylon running local to Rockville Centre, then Jamaica and Penn Station

9:05 p.m. from Babylon running local to Rockville Centre, then Jamaica and Penn Station

Port Washington Branch – Two Trains:

7:07 p.m. from Great Neck making all stops to Woodside, then Penn Station

8:42 p.m. from Port Washington making all stops to Woodside, then Penn Station

Hempstead Branch – One Train:

7:36 p.m. from Hempstead making all stops to Jamaica, then Penn Station

For the remainder of New Year’s Day, Friday, January 1, the LIRR will operate on a holiday schedule.

Metro North New Year’s 2015 Service Plan

Here is the New Year’s Eve & Day service plan information for Metro-North:

MTA Metro‐North Railroad wants to help you celebrate the most wonderful time of the year by providing all the service you’ll need for the upcoming holidays. Please remember that drinking alcohol on Metro‐North trains and at our stations is banned from noon New Year’s Eve until noon New Year’s Day. And don’t forget to buy your tickets in advance if you are traveling “early morning” (after midnight) on New Year’s Eve. Tickets will be
collected prior to boarding trains at Grand Central Terminal.

New Year’s Eve: Thursday, December 31:

A modified weekday schedule will be in effect with extra getaway trains between noon and 4 p.m., and reduced service at other times. And for those planning to party in Manhattan, there will be extra New York City‐bound trains for the late afternoon and evening.

New Year’s Day: Friday, January 1, 2016:

Metro‐North will operate plenty of extra outbound service from Grand Central after midnight to provide a safe ride home for everyone who has been busy ringing in the new year.

West of Hudson, the following trains will operate overnight into Friday morning.

A 1:27 a.m. train will leave Hoboken (the connection from Penn Station‐NY will depart at 1:22 a.m.), operate express to Suffern, and make all stops to Port Jervis, arriving at 3:40 a.m.

A 3:00 a.m. train will leave Hoboken (the connection from Penn Station‐NY will depart at 2:50 a.m.), and make all stops from Kingsland to Port Jervis, arriving at 5:37 a.m.

Please note: The 12:40 a.m. train from Hoboken to Port Jervis will not operate on New Year’s morning.

A 1:24 a.m. train will depart Hoboken (the connection from Penn Station‐NY will depart at 1:18 a.m.), and make all local stops to Spring Valley, arriving at 2:40 a.m.

A 3:45 a.m. train will depart Hoboken (the connection from Penn Station‐NY will depart at 3:39 a.m.), and make all local stops to Spring Valley, arriving at 4:56 a.m.

Please note: the 12:45 a.m. departure from Hoboken will not operate on New Year’s morning.

Due to lighter ridership on the rest of New Year’s Day, Metro‐North will provide hourly service on all East of Hudson lines. A weekend schedule will be in effect for West of Hudson service.
