Metro-North Service Plan For Tonight
Just received word a few minutes ago from the Metro-North on what their service plan is for tonight:
Due to the predicted severity of the winter storm, Metro-North is reducing service after 8 PM. At the end of the PM peak, Metro-North intends to provide hourly service on all three lines.
After midnight, locals and expresses will be combined with all local service to New Haven and Southeast and to Croton, where customers will transfer for local, diesel, service to Poughkeepsie.
Ridership Thursday was about 25% below a normal weekday, due mostly to the holiday week. The reduced service will allow the railroad to store between 100-120 rail cars inside the protection of Grand Central Terminal and shelter them from the blowing snow. In addition, fewer trains in service will reduce the possibility of trains from becoming stranded.
