FASTRACK Comes To The Grand Concourse
MTA NYC Transit’s highly successful FASTRACK program is expanding to new areas in 2013. The first stop for the program in 2013 sees it coming to the Bronx along Grand Concourse. Here are the complete details via the press release I received:
MTA New York City Transit announces the expansion of its successful FASTRACK maintenance program to line segments outside of the Central Business District and Downtown Brooklyn. On Monday, January 14, FASTRACK comes to the Grand Concourse Line in the Bronx. The Concourse (B, D) Line will be shut down from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m., for four consecutive weeknights from Monday, January 14 to early Friday morning, Janaury18, suspending service between 205th Street and 161st Street in both directions
During this FASTRACK:
• B service will end early
• D service will operate between Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue and 161st Street-Yankee Stadium. (Note: Downtown D trains will skip 155th Street.)
• As an alternative, customers should take 4 trains at nearby 4 train stations. Transfer is available between 4 and D trains at 161st Street-Yankee Stadium.
• Free shuttle buses will provide connecting service between the Norwood-205th Street (D) and the Mosholu Parkway (4) stations only.
FASTRACK was introduced in January 2012, devoting four straight weeknights to perform maintenance work in tunnels, stations and on tracks, completely suspending service within a given line segment for a seven-hour period between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. This gives free access to the system, allowing an army of maintenance workers to perform dozens of tasks without the concern of having to “clear up” to allow trains to pass.
The new FASTRACK corridors for 2013 include: the Broadway NQR south of Queensboro Plaza to Court Street; the A Line between 168th Street and 207th Street, in upper Manhattan; the Concourse Line D between 161st and 205th Streets; the Queens Boulevard Line EFMR between 5th Av/53rd Street and Roosevelt Avenue; the Lexington Avenue Local 6 between 45th and 100th Streets; and the Lexington Avenue Express 45 also between 45th and 100th Streets.
FASTRACK projects are also scheduled for the Sixth/Eighth Avenue Lines (A, B, C and D) between 59th Street-Columbus Circle and 168th Street-Broadway and 161st Street; Nassau Street-Broad Street-Essex Street on the J; the Fourth Avenue line (D, N, R) between 36th Street and 95th Streets in Brooklyn and the 2 along Nostrand Avenue between Franklin and Flatbush Avenues.
These FASTRACK efforts have been designed around the careful determination that there is adequate alternate means of transportation, including enhanced services along some bus lines during work periods.
When a line segment is closed at night, customers can expect to add 20 minutes to their usual travel time. Alternative transportation options will be detailed in announcements and posters on trains, in stations and on selected buses; brochures will be available in both English and Spanish. Information will also be available on the web at www.mta.info and through social media, email and text alerts.
Our next FASTRACK overnight closure will be on the 2 line along Nostrand Avenue between Franklin and Flatbush Avenues from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for four consecutive weeknights from Monday, January 21 to Friday, January 25.
